Degas Ballet


The members are an exciting, young group of dancers aged between 5 and 25 years. They have all undertaken training in Classical Ballet and some of them have been awarded their Advanced II Ballet certificate of the famous Cecchetti Method. 

The aim of Degas Ballet is to give talented dancers valuable experience and exposure, pursuing their interest in dance whilst developing their technical and performance skills. Seasoned professional dancers are frequently invited to perform with this youth ballet company thus giving young dancers valuable experience to dance and work with the professionals. Some of the professional guest dancers and choreographers include Ian McKenzie Stewart, Christine Hughes, Terence Etheridge and Sianne Strasbourg from United Kingdom, Sarah Barton, Jonathon Barton from Ballet West, Scotland; Sonja Laskowski – Broadway, New York; Chika Temma, Zhanat Atamyetev from Ballet Russe, Wales; Lewis Davies – West End, London; Nikolay, Yuri from St Petersburg, Russia, Ivelina Dimitrova from National Opera Ballet Sofia Bulgaria and Mavin Khoo soloist from London, Timea Startsky Start Dance Company Budapest, Hungary, Emil Faski Studgart Ballet Germany.

Degas ballet was launched in 1999 with the famous ballet Nutcracker at the Manoel Theatre to packed houses on 5 consecutive nights since then, the dancers participated in several national events namely: Reflessi Sajfien Marsalforn Gozo, August 2003; Dancers for the film Helen of Troy, May 2003; Musical Chess at MCC, May 2003; Eurovision Song Contest performing with Ira Losco, May 2003, Fashion Awards 2003, 2004, 2005 at MCC, Small Nations Games at Ta`Qali Stadium, June 2003; Queen at MCC 2002; Valletta Dances Opera House Ruins, April 2002; Opening ceremony of FISEC Games, July 2002; Opening of St. James Cavalier Centre for Creativity, September 2000; Eurovision Song Contest, February 2001,with Fabrizio Fianello, May 2003, with Ira Losco, February 2004 and 2005 with Kieth Camilleri, Claire Ballucci in Concert,  December 2001 at MCC and October 2005 at the Hilton; Scrooge Ballet at Sir Temi Zammit Theatre, December 2001; Dance Power at Manoel Theatre, December 2000, 2002 and 2005;MCI concerts since 1989, Hair Marathona 2005,Istrina 2005,Millennium Celebrations at Independence Arena, December 1999; 17th Anniversary Corinthia Group of Companies, December 1999; Nutcracker Ballet, November 1999, being the launch of Company, Dance Power 1, 2 and 3, December 1999, December 2001 and December 2003, Coppelia Ballet, Manoel Theatre November 2004, FAME MCC February 2005, the latter two performances being a celebration of the school`s 15th Anniversary. Members of the dance company have performed in the Opera Rigoletto at the Manoel Theatre in March 2006, with Huan Gambin under the direction of Miriam Gauci.
