Three Dancers on Scholarship in Cornwall U.K

Cornwall, renowned for its innovative spirit, has always inspired artistic achievement. An impressive list of painters, musicians, actors, directors and writers have made their home in England’s most westerly county including Terence Etheridge, the Artistic Director and Principal of the Dance College of Cornwall. The Dance College of Cornwall is a vocational college, formed four years ago with the aim of providing full time training for young dancers wishing to pursue careers as professional dancers.
Francesca Camilleri, Rachel Damato and Michaela Dimech are three students from the Brigitte Gauci Borda school of Ballet who are presently on a ten day scholarship at the Dance College of Cornwall. Mr. Terence Etheridge awarded these scholarships to them, when he was in Malta staging Coppelia at the Manoel Theatre, for Brigitte Gauci Borda’s school’s 15th Anniversary, last November.
Brigitte Gauci Borda is accompanying them together with six other students from her school: Arianne Attard, Desiree Azzopardi, Martina Borg, Ella Camilleri, Deborah Schembri, and Roberta Pace Bardon who are also attending the same course. Very distinguished dance teachers from all over the world including Terence Etheridge himself are teaching the students who are on a six hour daily training programme. Classical Ballet, Jazz Dance, Spanish Dance, Tap, Contemporary and Repertoire are all the dance disciplines included in this intensive course.
Brigitte Gauci Borda and Terence Etheridge have very close ties and are continuously collaborating. Together they have staged two full length ballets; Nutcracker with principals from Ballet West and Coppelia with principals from Ballet Russe, both held at the Manoel Theatre. Terence Etheridge has awarded a total of seven overseas scholarships to students of the Brigitte Gauci Borda school of Ballet.
